Default 52 Ford F1 hood trim

Just finishing the polish job on a set of 52 truck hood spears. I would like to paint the letters vermillion red as it appears the originals were painted. Any tips on how to just paint the letters and not the surrounding stainless steel?

I have had some luck by primng the text with a brush, Then sptaying the whole thing, and then before it cures use a shop rag stretched very tight over a piece or metal, soaked with thinner, and carefully wipe the raised areas off.. Probably a better way, but that has worked for me

I painted the script in my bumpers with a small brush, after it dried I scraped off the excess with a razor blade.

Unless it's a show truck, no one will be looking too closely. Properly thinned paint, a good brush, and a steady hand will do a decent job. Easy enough to wipe off mistakes.

The round badge at the front of the spears also has a red background to unpainted "F-1" letters. I did it the opposite way, red letters with a SS background.

I'd love to hear how they painted other letters on these on the assembly line, like the radio delete plate, the tailgate, etc.!

I thought I would hit the letters with acid etch primer, wipe it down to remove excess, then spray again with a good 2 part red engine enamel, and then wipe that down, hit with a clear engine enamel, and wipe down again, done. See how it turns out.

Dollar tree sells nail enamel in hundreds of colors. Brush in the cap.

I used “fine line” masking tape on the hood spears and hub caps, and then sprays them. Had to do a little trimming with an x-acto knife.

Fine line tape is available at automotive paint stores

I used masking tape and an Exacto knife to tape off the "no-paint zones". Kinda tedious for this shaky old man, but got the job done.
Could only get one photo to upload?
