School me on Sports coupes vs caroliets
Not a model A export for sure but always admired them Brother has a very nice 31 Roadster but that's as close as I get..
Sometime ago I told a guy there was a Model A convertible,, Roll up windows and a drop top.. At that time all I can find reference too was the sport coupe which had the drop top and roll up windows, but he door had a full window frame.. Am I mistaken or does the Cab not have the back or top of the window frame as part of the door. In other words by today's standards a Convertible?? |

Re: School me on Sports coupes vs caroliets
Top goes down on the Cabriolet, stays up on the Sport Coupe. The Sport Coupe has door structure (full frame) all around the doors whereas the Cabriolet has only glass trimmed with chromed trim on the top and rear of the window. As you suggested, the folding top has the "structure" for the rear and top of the door window. Both models have the Landau "irons" on the side of the top. They are functional only on the Cabriolet. The Cabriolet Model A began in 1929 as the 68A and went through 1931 as the 68C Slant Window variation.

Re: School me on Sports coupes vs caroliets
Cabriolets do not have a full door frame. The cabbie has chrome framing around the windows which roll up and down. The cabbie has a drop top and is a true convertible, the sport coupe has full door frames around the windows which have no frame on the glass. The Sport coupe top does not let down and is considered a coupe, not a convertible.

The best definition I have seen concerning the difference between a Roadster and a Cabriolet is " go for a ride in both in a rain storm and then answer your own question " ! Wayne

neither the Sport Coupe or the Cabriolet have a windshield that will fold down.

Re: School me on Sports coupes vs caroliets
It's not well known but sport coupes have an extra large rear window. Does anybody know why?
