Thanks GAR64, wow, that's a nice 56! I am debating putting hubcaps on like yours but I kinda like the dog dishes and beauty rings.

Moonshine, I like the dog dishes too. You should definitely keep them. Debating here whether to put the skirts back on....

I noticed that extra piece of trim on the top of the doors of Moonshines car. Was that an original option? Enjoy the car Moonshine. It looks great.

Thank you Ford Freak. GAR64, the trim is from a 56 Mercury. I think it ads a nice touch to the car.

That's a sweet looking Vicky. I think that Full wheel covers would dress
it up, and Simulated-Wire wheel covers would really be the ultimate.

just be aware that if running radial tires the sidewall bulge will rub on outer ring.ask how I knownow wall hangers.looked awesome but squeaking and wearing into sidewall bugged me so removed and put on dogdish with black rims.have full wheel disc but radials caused rim to flex loosening them got tired of banging them back every drive.I also love your car.mine is 54 vicktoria

Hey 54vicky,

Well, I haven't driven it much yet but my wife and I were out for a little drive the other day and made a fairly hard left turn and I heard something on the left rear rubbing.

I wasn't sure what it was, if it was the tire rubbing on the fender skirt or what so I am glad you mentioned it.

So what do you mean, rub on the "outer ring" ?

Thanks!

Kevin

54vicky I have full covers on my Oz Mainline and they never move. I would think your covers are probably loose on their fixing points. I have had the covers on for about 6 years and run 205/65x15" radials and drive at all highway speeds. Never lost one yet or had to knock them back on after a drive. I am using late model 15" wheels though which may make a difference.
Kevin, you're a lucky man, that's a beautiful Vicky. Welcome to the forum. They're all a friendly bunch.

Kevin you posted while I was posting. The rubbing is a common problem on our cars. There is not a lot of spare room when you are running fender skirts or wider than standard tyres. The problem is usually worn spring hangers allowing the diff to move sideways on turns. Having passengers in the back will probably make it worse. You should see some marks on the tyres to show whether they are rubbing on the outer or inner sidewall.

later wheels may be the reason I am not sure.I still have the 60 year old wheels.my tires are 215x75.I only had that problem on front that I chalked that up to wheel flex.I had them for years with bias ply problem arose after then read that they caused a few other people same problem they are mint so rather than lose one at speed having had the wires I thought try them same result.only on front.possibly tires different mold or sidewall profile?like most on here just posted my problem.I read your posts and you give good input.if wheels for sure I would replace but trying to find 60 year or older as they were used 49-56 because the left side with skirts clearance is very close a 5'' wheel is a must.the 5'' rim probably causes more sidewall bulge due to pinching down the bead area.I also agree with the advice on the hangar bushings.fun job but if so it needs to be done.

Hi Kevin what I meant was the outer part of ring for lack of a better word probably should have said disc.funny when you write knowing what you mean thinking everyone is on your wave length if you check my post on Ricks response it may explain my problem.your car is a beauty and as Rick said there are a good bunch on here.not every answer will fit your situation but they will be giving what has worked for them what I am saying is if you have a problem and some answers do not apply do not feel they are wrong. hope you enjoy your time on here as well as your car have had mine for forty years and never tire of it.
