Default It is amazing how i lived this long

Slightly off topic but reasonably informative

So I am Entering the expressway near my house.
Upon completing said maneuver I hit an Infamous Chicago Pothole with my 03 Gran Marquis.
Lost two hubcaps and blew out the drivers side rear tire.
Proceed to complete the 71 year old Agility test. Find the spare tire and jack, raise up the car and change the spare without having a heart attack. Spare tire is low. (naturally) But I make it to the gas station with difficulty as there is an issue with the car moving, Evidently the rear disc brake has a problem. so i pull into the gas station to air up the spare. The rear wheel is smoking, with a small flame appearing. NO fire extinguisher in the modern car. So i run(?) into the station grab a bottle of washer fluid and pour the fluid fluid on the wheel. Poor decision as Washer Fluid has a small amount of alcohol in it. slightly larger flame now in sight.
Run back into the station get four liters of water and successfully douse the flame.

Call AAA get a tow to the repair shop.Buy a new extinguisher for the modern car and buy a lottery ticket because I did not use up all my luck.
Thanks
Roger

Don't know about the Midwest, but out West, we pay taxes on top of taxes to ensure the agency responsible compensates for the loss. Take pictures and submit the repair bills.

Sorry, this made me chuckle. Not gonna happen where I live. Many of the potholes have potholes in the Spring.

Many of us have stories like this - or worse - but would be too embarrassed to share them.

Take a fine single malt scotch and some water. Throw the water on the car

One of my friends said to Piss on the wheel but I had trouble locating the equipment and the fire was too close to the gas tank

At your age, the pump pressure might not be what
it should be so getting closer might result in damage

to the equipment...

Down state roads are just as bad. The only difference is the traffic is not as crazy. Best move to make is a move to Tennessee!

NOT TO WORRY,.....things like this will happen to all of us from time to time as we age, and then as time moves on it gets much worse

We pay a large association fee in the development we live in to maintain our paved road. It pisses me off that a foot from the ending of our road on the state highway is a developing facsimile of the Grand Canyon and the state won't fix it. Can't dodge it so have to creep through it into 70 MPH traffic. Sure glad you survived your ordeal?

Back in our Youte, we were driving down de road when we saw smoke coming from the hood. We pulled over and opened the hood when a ball of fire shot out. Not having a fire ext we began scooping sand and dirt from the side of the road to put the fire out.It worked!
When we looked at the engine the carb was full of dirt and sand. In fact the complete engine was covered. A passing car took us back to town where we picked up a friend with a pick up and towed it home, blew of all the dirt , removed the carb and cleaned it out ( no air cleaner) Replaced the gas line and fired it up/ Can't believe the engine still ran that good, guess the throttle was closed , so nothing got in the engine. I'd like to say it was a flathead ford, but it was a flathead 37 Pontiac. Wonder if it's still running.
