Has lots of similarities to the 1941 Ford Grille?

Here is a 1941 Ford Grille for comparison. The vertical lines are similar, but that is where the similarity ends. Sorry, can't help.

I see this vehicle is some sort of rod ,perhaps it is clever custom made job. Well done if it is.

Looks like a 41 maybe modified to bolt into a 40. Or maybe it just does bolt in.

I have a set of '40 Standard repop grilles that came out of South America, I was told they were made back in the 70's. They're well-made, but not perfectly accurate. Maybe they offered a Deluxe version?

talked the guy with the 40 yesterday , told me the grill was made in war time cast in brass stronger than dicast mud metal , maybe the bullets wouldn't damage it lol , also told me headlight frames are brass the car has been on the road as a hot rod 30 plus years

Maybe those old die cast 40's shook apart on your corrugated bush roads. I understand that was an issue with the Pilot grills for those that lived "out back and beyond".

Thanks for the comments so far,, I have been contacted by the owner (original car) of the '40,, as well as a revered early ford person,, Both have given different explanation on the possible grills origin,, down here in Australia. And it appears that the production of this grill was specific to the '40 for the aussie produced cars. Unfortunately none of the above suggestions come close... So I will leave it up here for a little longer and see what you guys come up with.

I don't believe that it is a Ford manufactured Grill. For a start it would have had a crank hole in the middle if it was.

I have been playing around with 39 - 40 Fords most of my life and owned quite a few and have never seen one like that before. When I first saw the photo I thought Ford Pilot.

I had a friend who was a die hard 40 man and for years he collected NOS Ford parts from all over outback Queensland and New South Wales as his job took through those areas and at one stage he had about 15 of the 1940 cast grill sections. The majority of those sections were for the left side as the right hand ones broke when the crank handle was pulled upward trying to start the car. He didn't have any that were different to the genuine Ford ones and I'm sure that if there had been any out there he would have found them.

Can you tell us what the part No. on it is?

Thanks guys for the responses,, I was curious to hear if there was a qualifiable answer on these grills.

I did get some follow-up from the owner of the all original 40, and from another ford nut.
The following comments from the owner are,

"They were made of solid brass for staff cars in WW2 . Deflect bullets I was told."

And from the learned Ford man,

"Yep, used to be a white '40 sedan in the Bendigo area that had the same grille. Most likely it's a replacement grille made after the War when parts were scarce, they also made cast brass headlight rims around that time too...someone said they were done for the insurance companies of the time, but that might be a bit of folklore...who knows."

So still no clear answer,, but a curious piece of Ford history.
