1929 Pickup payload?
Can anyone direct me to a reference where I can find the max rated payload for a 1929 CCPU? I have found dimensions in cubic yards but not weight.
I am thinking 3/4 ton but can't find anything in writing. Many thanks Juggs |

The pickup, which is built on the car chassis is rated at 500 pounds, or 1/4 ton.

Re: 1929 Pickup payload?
It's rated at 500 lbs but I've carried over 1000 lbs with no problem, though I wouldn't recomend it. I put 50 lbs of air in the rear tires and didn't go over 25 MPH. One time I hauled much more than 1000 lbs of Model A cast iron in the truck and another 800 lbs in a trailer but it almost didn't make it up a pretty steep hill.

Re: 1929 Pickup payload?
Thanks for the responses. Not as much as I'd thought obviously!
Again, anyone refer me to a printed reference? Thanks again |

Re: 1929 Pickup payload?
Here is a picture taken in a parade last summer with my grandkids in the back. This huckster is built on a 29 CCPU frame and springs. So you can see that the wheels get kind of close to the fenders with this kind of load. I would say the 1/4 ton is the rated size.

Re: 1929 Pickup payload?
I've hauled many heavy things in my A Pickups, most loads of which were over 1/4 ton.
The '31 with a new rear spring, loaded down with 2 complete FE series 390 Ford engines and a 4spd trans the truck was just barely squatting in the ass(maybe 2 inches). I figured the load weighed 1500 lbs counting the small parts, engines and a cast iron case 4spd. Another load was a pile of scrap going to junkyard-load was a tad shy of 1200 lbs according to the scalehouse ticket, here again no problems. I had no problem stopping nor did I suffer any ill handling effects. Weak springs will most certainly affect your hauling capabilities not to mention handling. Most "restored" A's I see still use worn out original springs. |

Re: 1929 Pickup payload?
A few years ago I had 8 cheerleaders in my pickup bed with 2 on the running boards during a homecoming parade for Wichita State University (their colors are gold and black). I do believe I was over loaded.
I noticed I saw my wife more than once on the parade route. |

Re: 1929 Pickup payload?
I was asked to carry 3 Red Skinettes in my Cabbie for a political parade. They each signed photos for my 2 young boys. Ms. Sandy showed up for that parade for the next 5 years.
