LED Headlights
After researching the options for brighter lights, I decided to give these a try.
LEDlight.com, I got 2-1158 style for the H/L and 2-1156 with a lower CP for the tail and brake lights...$25 !! It got cold last night, but I pulled it outside and shined them on the garage door. Very pleased so far, actually have a low and high and the draw on the generator is almost nonexistent, maybe 1A on high. A slight flicker can be seen at idle and as soon as the cut-out kicks in, it stops. Tail, low and high, 30' and 15' |

Re: LED Headlights
They also have these which are a lot brighter, but 6V pos. ground only -
https://www.ledlight.com/a-13007-d-a...ve-ground.aspx The problem with either one is they won't focus worth a crap, the geometry is just wrong. Unless they switch off the lower led's when dimmed, the beam won't dip; it will just lower the brightness in the other guy's face. May be illegal in some places, idk. |

But if you notice my pics, the left garage door is not lit up much at all. I did run the focus adjustment all the way in (screws backed out), they don't focus into a beam like the originals, but did concentrate the light. I don't think they are any worse than most modern car headlights, as far as blinding oncoming traffic. The pics don't show the difference between high and low very well. But it's WAY more noticeable than the stock bulbs. I don't drive at night all that much, but it's nice to take a putt on a hot summer evening... and see where you're going. And be seen !! The best part in my opinion, is the lower amperage draw. |

Re: LED Headlights
What I am saying is that low beam with an incandescent bulb actually drops the beam to the ground, out of the oncoming driver's eyes. Simply reducing the intensity, even though less bothersome, still poses a danger.

Re: LED Headlights
Depending on where the emitters are placed, and how big they are, you can fine tune the angle to sort of improvise the effective filament placement.
I believe the next gen' LED lights might use the tiny pretend filament style emitter like retro style house bulbs do. Could be an interesting science to watch.
