Can anyone identify this head?
Not one we've seen before at this end. Anyone know what it is? Probably a bog standard catalog replacement, but would be interested to know who made/sold it.
Also donor vehicle converted to 12v at some stage. A but not A somehow. Again anyone shed any light? Many thanks Andrew in cold wet dark south west of UK . |

Re: Can anyone identify this head?
I don't have any info on the head but the chamfer on the rear plate of the generator started in 1933. The holes for ventilation were added after early 1933. The holes in your picture look a little larger than I remembered, maybe someone enlarged them to increase air flow. These generators were the Ford replacement part shown in the Green Bible for '28-'34 so they are a lot more common than the '33-'34 vehicles. They started as 6 volts so someone reworked it.

Re: Can anyone identify this head?
I've seen that head a few times as well as posts about it on ahooga and the old barn. No one seems to know definitively. Guesses have been Western Auto, Sears, Wards, etc.

If I ever lift the head (task number 4376) I'll post some more pics of the chambers and see if that jogs any memories. Regards Andrew in bright clear crisp south west of UK |

Re: Can anyone identify this head?
I can't say where the head came from, but if you do a compression check you may get a rough idea if it is the standard 4.22:1 compression, in the 50-60 psi range, or higher. The Ford 'police head' and copies of it would show compression readings 15-20 psi higher than stock.

Re: Can anyone identify this head?
Thanks Mike. A very useful tip. I'll try it next time I'm home.
I'll also try it on my Dad's 29 Fordor, which despite being the oldest, heaviest, and outwardly completely standard, leaves everything else we've owned/driven in the dust. Regards Andrew |

Re: Can anyone identify this head?
I have a head that looks just like that one, Lettering is the same. It has heart shaped chambers and looks to have same size chambers as my "police head" with the large "B" on top.
That said I would say it is 5.22 CR. Not sure who sold them but I have had it since the early 60's. Quote:

Re: Can anyone identify this head?
Thanks guys
The 30 pickup that the engine came out of had been lightly rodded, later brakes, 16' Kelseys etc, so I was hoping that it would be a higher compression head. Who knows, maybe a counterweighted crank and lumpy cam in there All will be revealed after I get back from Phoenix in December.... Best regards Andrew in suspiciously warm and sunny west of England.
