Default Mitchell transmission

Anyone have an A with one of these? Any comments, pro or con?

I know of several people with them even though I don't have one myself. They all seem to like them. Well made and you can get a little higher speed second gear.

I have had a Mitchell syncro about 5000 miles so far.

Best thing I did to the car in last 54 years ... hands down ... "Numba One".

There are 3 types:

1. Standard ratios 1st and 2nd.

2. 15% higher 1st gear

3. 15% higher 1st gear plus 15% higher 2nd gear.

The third is the one that I chose. Love the higher ratios.

It is a joy to drive in traffic and leaving stop lights.

Recently added Mitchell Over Drive and changed from 3.54 to 3.78.

The 3.54 that I had installed the last 30 years was just too tall for mountain roads and the 6000 to 12,000 feet altitudes.

Mt Evans is 14260.

Even with the B engine and Police head it needs the extra revolutions to climb the "Hills".

That's on my wish list, but I have to wear out a couple of very quiet Henry-straight-cut gear versions first. That won't be very soon.

The 15% higher first and second gears makes it very similiar to the '39 trans.

I installed the 15% over in first and second synchro trans and really like it. Much easier on your engine as you are always in the correct gear as shifting is so much easier and you are not inclined to lug your engine. I did have a problem when I first installed it, I told my wife that I think I wasted my money. She asked why was that? I replied, I can't get used to not double clutching: but seriously 30,000 km later I still think it was the best thing that I have done.
I have since installed the Mitchell 26% overdrive and completed a 14,000km journey and I also love that.
My wife also finds the car much more user friendly also.

I've decided to install one this winter and maybe the OD the winter after. I'm going to take a drive in one that has both and get a feeling for each.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and experiences.
