Default Gilmore Car Museum Location

Where is Hickory Corners and the Gilmore Car Museum in relation to Dearborn? Can not seem to find it on maps. Will look it up on Google Maps.

Might take a trip there someday.

Thanks.

It is the most southeastern building. East end of main street on the south side. Facing it on the north side is the Franklin building.

Jim, Tom, and Mike...

Thanks again for the information.

When viewing the place on Google Maps...I kind of figured that was the building but was not sure.

I thought it was just a couple of buildings but this is fantastic...So got to plan a trip to Greenfield Village and this one.

Hope to get there someday before I am pushing up dasies!

It's more than easy to spend a day at each of the greenfield village, Henry Ford museum, the bentley archives, and Gilmore across the state.

I also didn't realize how many buildings are in this same area. I thought there were some other car museums in the general area, but this is like Disneyland for some of us. I see marked on the diagram, a "main entrance" by building A. Is there a one price ticket to visit all the museums, or are they all independently run? Would be good to understand more about all of this before going and what to expect.

There is one ticket to get into the museums and you have a day of enjoyment ahead of you. The ticket is $13 and worth every penny.

Another option is to become a member of MAFFI (Model A Ford Foundation) which is $25 for a year, but will give you access for you and your family to the museum as many times as you like during the year!

Well I have been a member of MAFFI for a few years now so that is good news.

I am going to donate a copy of my Book 1 to the museum as I did to the Ford Archives.

Steve,

There are 26 marquees at the Gilmore so there is lots to see. The Model A Museum was rated as the best last year I believe. Proud time for me being associated as the museum was built and opened. I hope you go back to donate your book the library is quite nice and has climate controlled archives for the original documents they have.

You should make it a point to join us at Model A day in September for our swap, seminars and hall of fame inductions. This will be our 8th year doing it

Be prepared to be amazed. The largest car museum in the country. 90 acres, 500 cars with nearly 400 on display at any time. The operations consists of the Gilmore buildings and collection per se, plus about half a dozen more-or-less permanent collections of various other national car clubs, plus miscellaneous smaller collections temporarily loaned to the museum for various special rotating displays. I'm not sure of the financial details, but I believe that typically the affiliated club finances the initial construction and provides the cars, while Gilmore handles the day-to-day maintenance and ticketing chores. This is all transparent to visitors: you pay one price to see it all. In addition, all summer long, there are special car shows hosted on the lovely grounds (e.g., Mopar, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Model A Day, etc.) usually with special ticket pricing.

To my mind, one of the most wonderful features is that the cars are not roped off: you can just walk right up to them, although, to be sure, there are lots of DO NOT TOUCH signs.

This should be on everyone's bucket list. My wife and I were there on Model A day last year and we made a quick tour of all the buildings but we could have easily spent another day or two but alas we had to head back to Georgia.

in addition to all that has been said, which i heartily agree with, within about 200 miles are Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg museums, Studebaker museum, Ford museum and Village and a mostly unknown Hudson museum in a quaint Amish village south of Kalamazoo.

Our MAFFI Model A museum s a source of great pride and i was there at the opening to direct traffic :-)

Richard,

There were so many people there for the Grand Opening from coast to coast. Model A folks are the greatest!
