1928 Model A Truck

I recently bought a 1928 truck. Vin# A1939, I don’t know much about it yet, is there a way to find out the original color? Also does anyone know how rare it might be?

If that is the correct Engine # and it is running and has its original frame with the same #, ITS Very Rare..

I was told it’s all original, I havnt pulled the cab yet to see if the frame matches. But yes it runs and drives great. It does have new spoke rims and tires, but other than that it ilks original

Would be cool if that engine number is original to the truck.

Does it have Ford script above the rear window?

Your truck must be a 76-A, an Open Cab Pick Up. Closed Cab Pick Ups were not introduced until early June of 1928. A1939 would put your vehicle as an early December build, probably the first week of the month.

So you have an early-mid '28 AA Closed Cab Platform truck.

I cannot tell from the pictures if there is Ford Script above the rear window, if so that dates it from Beginning of Production through Feb '28. If it doesn't have the script then it is March through June of '28.

I downloaded the pictures from the auction site and enlarged them as much as possible. I still can't be absolutely certain but I don't think it has the Ford script above the rear window.

AFAIK, there is no documentation as to the original color of a specific Model A. Sometimes you can tell from remnants of the paint on the vehicle - look in places that aren't subject to wear. Model A had black fenders and splash aprons - the standard body colors are listed below but I think trucks could be ordered in any color at extra cost:

Someone in NJ I stopped by had one of the oldest AA trucks known to exist from what they said

As it stands unless somebody has further knowledge of the passage of engines from the production line to the truck line (IIRC, there was some delay) then I would guess this engine is early - but a transplant.

If so, it may still be notable. There is some confusion regarding the "details" of early engines, which, if the number is correct, this qualifies as.

So at a minimum, there may be something to learn from this.

If it is like most commercial vehicles, they were used and frequently used HARD. My 29' CC pickup (avatar) was at 140K by the odometer, but into its SECOND engine which was a red "Allstate" replacement - and that one was pretty worn out too.

One might expect this is a replacement engine from the background given.

In looking at the pictures shown it has a later Gas Tank, Choke Rod, Instrument Panel, Gas Gauge Etc. Both Clutch and Brake Pedals are also of the later type..As Gary said, the Body is of a later style used for that early of a Truck. One good picture of the engine # area would tell the "REST OF THE STORY"

My guess is that it had an engine swap at some point in it's life. Otherwise, it would be AA1939. I agree with the above in that it is a March to June '28, which makes sense with the later gas tank.

Also, the earliest AA that I'm aware of is AA36 in Pennsylvania.

I once owned C578 and should have kept that engine. It was in a huckster body that was recently made.
