Default Ballad of Another Stuck Valve

I fought the block and the block won.

I suspected the valve stem was seized inside the valve guide not that the guide was seized inside the block. The stem had actually driven a hole (and embedded itself) into the tappet! Pretty incredible stuff. I figured in order to drive the guide out I would first have to hack away the exposed stem. At which point I would have to drill out the valve head. Once the stem was removed and the head was drilled out I was able to drive the guide out with a socket and then extrude the tappet. What a problem to have!

IÂ’m now searching for a machine shop in N. Texas! IÂ’ve already spoken with one old school builder but thatÂ’s a story for another day!

I replaced a valve, guide and lifter in my 50 a few years back. I hand lapped the valve then filed the stem to get the lash, it's been good so far.

Very cool Greg! This is a complete tear down for me since the history is unknown. I’m just reading, listening and learning.
