Default ignition trouble

52 victoria few days ago I had the dist cap off checked point gap and put a bit of lube on cam all good didn't try to start it until today no start no spark, I can break the points manually and get a good spark as many times as I want from the coil but when I have the cam in position that I can break the points by advancing the plate I get a good spark the first time the points break then nothing after until I manually break the points again then it will fire one time by advancing to break the points, ford dist Mallory voltmaster 6v coil white ceramic resistor, Hope this makes sense Don't want to take it all apart for something simple .

Be sure the wire going to the points is not grounding on the distributor when the point plate moves. Had it happen. Liked to drive me crazy before I found it.

I would sparingly shoot some ether at the contacts while holding then apart. Good luck.

Also check your feeler gauge for oil-grease. Its nice to protect them from rust when they lay in your box, but they need to be sanitary in the dist.

This drove me nuts when I was 16 and had just put new points in my car. Cleaned my feeler gauge with lacquer thinner, cleaned the new points with same, and she fired right up. Ever since I always wipe the feeler gauge clean before I set the gap.

Started right up after I replaced the condenser, What confused me was the fact it had good spark from the coil every time I operated the points manually but would only fire one time if I operated the points by advancing the plate until I broke the points manually, Still have not figured that out. Thanks for all the reply's.
