Default Vacuum Advance 1971 2V 302

I have Stock 2V 302. Distributor has TWO vacuum hoses to it. How important is it keep both of those? Can it be replaced with a single hose advance and still function? Thank You for any input.

the outside port is for advancing the timing, the inside retards the timing. you can eliminate the retard side, just make sure you don't end up with more than 38 degrees total timing when the outside is connected. the retard side was for at idle to help control the hc levels

I bought a Torino new in 73 with a 302. I put in a dizzy with a custom curve and a vacuum advance from a 289 and set the initial with a vacuum gauge. The stock 2 barrel had jets about two numbers larger, and it met idle CO during a test in 75 for Minnesota law at that time. It also got two to four more MPG. It also had 351 W exhaust manifolds and a 351 Y pipe cut and welded to fit. Drove the car 111,000 like that, sold it to a nephew who drove it 2 0r 3 more years.

Update - got a single port vacuum advance unit from NAPA. Poor guy had a heck of a time finding one. Put it on and blocked off that little "vacuum tree" and, so far, seems to run fine.
