Manifold Question
After having the manifold and intake plained do you also need to plain the rings that go into the head? or is there enought room to leave the rings alone?

Re: Manifold Question
Make sure the recess are clean and do a trial fit without the gaskets. If everything fits good, you are good to go. If not just grind some off the rings. These are not precision parts, if they are not 100% level this will not be a deal breaker, they are there to support the manifold. The gasket does the sealing.

Re: Manifold Question
Well I got into the Manifold yesterday and found that the rings where holding the manifold away from the head. So I removed them and everything fit up and sealed nicely. Then went to start the car and had gas running out of the carb. That turned out to be a leaking float. Fixed the float and the car run the best it has since I started sorting things out to get it running. Now on to the Brake noise and the speedo not working. JP

Re: Manifold Question
Hope you plan on re-installing the manifold rings. Over time heat/weight causes the manifold to droop on one end and eventually sags enough where you have to replace the manifold. The rings help support the manifold properly and prevents sagging from happening.

Re: Manifold Question
When you get the chance, make sure the carb flange on the manifold and carb are flat. They warp and cause a leak that is hard to find. Hit them both with a large file to see if they are flat. The whole surface should be shiny. Then they are flat. You can do this on the car. Just use a light and a mirror.
