eccentric rivet installation
Quick question here. Can't seem to find anything on the proper way to install the eccentric rivet in the steering box. Does the high point of the rivet go up or down? Found nothing in the service bulletins or the red book. Thanks for the help.

Re: eccentric rivet installation
I think I inferred the direction from the picture in the service bulletins.
But I can not remember which way it was. I am thinking away from the gear, the idea is all new parts would be further away. With wear the plate would need to be closer to the worm. In any event, the distance has to be where the sector is tight to the worm when central. |

Re: eccentric rivet installation
Think Les red book page 1-302 and called centralization rivet. That's the only test/adjustment I have not tried for solving the right slop in my steering wheel drive straight down the road. Not even sure what it does. Mind failing🤔

Re: eccentric rivet installation
When you are driving straight down the road you want the steering gear to be exactly centered, that is when you can turn the steering wheel an equal amount to lock it going right or left of center. The steering gear is made to be tightest in the center and a slight bit looser off center. Follow the SERVICE BULLETINS and you'll get it right.

Follow the service bulletins. A job best done with the steering column OUT of the car and held by a vise. Joe K
