Default 48 f1 tires

what tires came from the factory on a 48 f1, and what is the closest i can get to those today? were all facory tires firestones in 48?

My book lists 6.00x16 ,6.50x16 or 15"-6 with rims of 16x4 1/2 or 15x5.5 for F1. I'm sure firestone was original but not if it was the only choice.

would the ford script black walls be too early for the 48 model?

I can tell you my dad runs 7.00 X 16" on his '49 F-1 and the tires are too big. I think they have too much sidewall and don't handle as well as a smaller tire. Mind you, bias ply tires don't handle great to big with so it's all realitive I guess.

I have had Firestone 6.50 x 16's on my 48 F1 pickup. They handled pretty good. They are now on my 53 F100, still like em' I have had them for about nine or ten years.

It is my understanding that script tyres finished in '42 with the beginning of full American involvement in WWII

I have the 6.50X16s on my '48 F-1 The stock is 6.00X16 optional 6.50X16
