The Ford Barn

I know I am everywhere with this truck right now but I wanted to get the cab mounted first. I almost burned these in a Bon fire but had second thoughts. Thought we could save them as only the front was rotted. My buddy Aaron did his magic and grafted on new hard wood. They will be ready for another 75 years. Still need fine tuning and the front can mount holes drilled.

I had a total of 4 headlights, two were pretty much junk and two were useable if I could fix them. Turns out one of the better lights had the base in the wrong spot, think it is a 37 but not sure. Today I repaired them and changed the base over on the one to match my other one. The bottom of the inside on both also had some rot so I cut one of the bad buckets up to use as patch pieces, also used a spot to fill the old base hole. Now I have two good headlights.

Looks good Jeff, how can you tell what year they are? I have a very similar looking set but don't know what they came off of. Here's a couple pics.

Honestly Mark, those do not look like any thing automotive to me. They look like commercial tractor or something like that.

More little work on the 35. Fender/headlight supports were straight as an arrow but had some severe rot where the headlight mounts. Got those done and decided to tackle the windshield regulator. I had one that worked but had broken teeth. The other was junk but I salvaged some good teeth from it to fix the other one. Works like it should now. Cab is mounted and I have a line on a running flathead so hopefully soon this project will really get going.

Restored window regulator is awesome! That's digging deep and coming up gold right there- no such thing as "free time". Great whole car build thread, love the blurry line between "repaired" and "restored" when it comes to these cars and their components! -Chris

Thanks guys, trying to save as much money as possible as these trucks seem to be pricey when it comes to parts. Threw the front sheetmetal on to see how everything fits and also to see what needs to be fixed. The bed and rear fenders are not bolted down yet. You can see the headlight patches for the front fenders that came from a fellow ford barner. I also hopefully have some very nice rear sections from some front fenders coming to fix where they mount to the running board.

Some more progress. Picked up some pretty good steel rear fenders for it. They need a little work but very happy with them. Did a lot of work on the hood. It was crushed in pretty good from the tree but after about two hours of working on it, I am happy with the fit so far. Also clamped on my running boards to see how everything lines up.

If it were mine I would bolt everything up, get it running and mechanically solid, put wire wheels on it and drive the wheels off of it, I love the patina.

I have been working on it a bit every day. Mostly still trying to track down some missing parts. Got my window regulators rebuilt with the help of a ford barner who sent me 4 NOS roller cups and springs. They are ready to go. Finally got all the correct original fender braces for it too. This week I am going through the trans since it is so cold out. I am going to run the 35 for awhile until I can locate a 39, that is unless I can live with the 35. Still having issues locating a flathead, the last one I thought I had vanished in the wind or was sold to somebody else. Only sheetmetal I am missing is the little filler panels below the bed that bridge the gap at the running board. If anybody has a set pm me.

I've seen a couple of the bed filler panels on Ebay recently but they seemed pricey compared to the condition. Maybe if you look at them you will think differently.

But he has said in previous posts he doesn't want new, he wants originals with some character to them.
