The results.
We often see an enquiry about some problem, and often see the posts saying "let us know how it turns out" ........ and often that does not happen.
I had a lot of noise coming from #5 cylinder and from the front of the engine in general (C59A), and when I pulled it apart I found a piston that was about .007 under and an alloy cam gear with two teeth broken. I found a used Ford USA fibre gear in very good condition in a mate's stash, and Kiwitony on here sent me a box of pistons. They are +.045 and getting very difficult to source. Seems like .045 was a Canadian military size. The first piston I measured from Tony's box had .001 wear and perfect ring grooves, so that's now in my engine ...... .... and all is quiet and smooth! Problem rectified, thanks to the generosity and camaraderie of the FordBarn! |

Re: The results.
It's great to see people fix the problem. Over the years I have gained confidence in tearing these thinks apart and fixing what's wrong. Taking them in for a total rebuild is getting out of the hands of workin' folk. Lap the valves, maybe hone and rings, some plastigauge, you know the drill.

Re: The results.
Well done, glad you were able to source a piston relatively locally.
Off topic: I hear your lads did well in the rugby! Mart. |

Re: The results.
In fact it was a great game!
After the game, the Wallaby captain spoke very well. Very sportsmanlike! I hear today that Carter is today, World Rugby player of the year. Not bad on top of back to back Rugby World Cup wins. |

Re: The results.
Didn't actually watch the game Lawrie as it was on 3am in the morn..Aghh
I just knew the kiwis won as our kiwi crew in the club had big smiles on their faces all day.. Gearbox; Still going, still driving daily. Haven't drained it again for another look. Those "high performance" springs and balls for the tower seem to be working other than backing off on higher revs its holding second gear. They are a PITA to get it in gear when still sometimes.

Re: The results.
Unlike Aussie where you have AFL and league as main contenders for peoples' interest, we have really only rugby (league too, but not nearly as strong as Aussie), so it's a cause of extreme national pride for us. It's a mark of respect for each other's teams when the players on both sides show humility and good sportsmanship towards all concerned.
Now, back to regular programming...... |
