No Comments is a big indicator on that You-Tube short. He seems to have to hold it is 1st pretty tight. At the end he states "end of discussion" but I have no idea who he discussed anything with.

It really wouldn't be all that much trouble to make the column shift work the 1st & 2nd gate and same with 3rd & 4th. The reverse on a T10 4-speed is a separate shift fork lever back in the tail housing. The whole transmission was based on the T85 3-speed so they are both similar except for reverse. Jerry rigged stuff like this wouldn't be a big deal but shifting it would be a PITA. A floor shift makes a lot more sense.

It would be a Pita. If you can afford the 4sp you should be able to afford the shifter.

Yes Correct..... I was shown how to do this and its quite easy.
Less than 100 bucks in parts and some small fab work.
As mentioned, Hurst shifters are not cheap any more.My Black 57, it cost close to $1500 to gather all for a Hurst Comp Plus unit.
All I used was the factory 3 speed shifter assembly.
Reverse is a factory OD cable under the dash.
I have a very short horrible vid.... sorry.. we are in the middle of moving and time is short.. the quality is terrible.. but I have driven the car locally on backroads and it shifts and downshifts fantastic.
It will never stand up to a Hurst unit. but I really don't care... If I break it.I'll fix it.

I like it.. and thats all that really matters.

... son of a bxxxx ...

I never even thought of it. I drove a HILLMAN (yes, I have sinned) with a 4/S on the tree ...

But never heard or seen anything like this ... Never even crossed my mind.

My old 47 Triumph 1800 Roadster has a 4 on the tree. I have to push the shifter forward all the way to hit the reverse gate. It needed a 4-speed but they didn't want a floor shifter to give more room. The 2000 that came out in 1949 only had a 3-speed.
