Just curious why you would need an appraisal - great insurance policies are to be had for "agreed value" which greatly simplifies your covergage - so if you feel comfortable with say a $50,000 value - the underwriter will calculate the rate based on that agreed value - the premiums are amazingly low for the value you get and quality companies are available and well rated with good claims history. I'm sure you will get many recommendations on various companies from fellow barners.

Yes to above; but he has to get appraisal to show insurer what value is so they can agree.

I didn't need an appraisal for grundy, I took my car to the insurance salesman, and told him what I wanted to insure it for, they have an appraisal book they can look at different rates, if its modified higher costs, I have a 57 chevy 4dr I was going to have it insured for $10,000, he said it was worth more, $14000, and so I went with $14000, no problem

I also have Grundy. Sent them pictures and a copy of the title. I had a value in mind and they agreed, Simple, no problems.

Hagerty, how much? NO appraisal needed. Pick a number, pay that premium. They wanted pictures.

Have insured many cars with Agreed Value option ... never required an appraisal including the current 35 Coupe

I insured my car with my regular insurance State Farm for agreed value.
All they wanted was a few photos.

I think there is an "Agreed Value" at which an appraisal is required by some insurance companies.

Might be talking two different things here, there is "agreed value" which is what both parties agreed to and that amount determines payments. Then there is "appraisal value" with the value set by an appraiser and that amount determines payments. But I have not heard of both mixed together. Guess it is possible, but they are two different approaches to establishing insured amount.

Same here.

If you want a high figure check out the NADA Classic/Antique car guide they seem really high, at least to me.

State Certified Appraiser of Vintage Automobiles:

In NY State insurance companies must be State Certified. My MetLife company subcontracts its insurance of vintage autos to a specialty national company and the State requires an inspection and certified appraisal by a State Certified Appraiser. To avoid fraud, State Insurance Laws do not allow "over-insuring" property beyond its appraised value. MY '47 is appraised above 22,000 and my annual rate is under $400. including an elected up-grade in collision coverage. Contrary to what Clerks at NYS DMV offices may tell you, NYS has no laws that limit annual miles driven by vintage autos, and neither does my insurance company.

Agreed Value = you and the insurance company agree on a value and you pay premiums based on that agreed value. In the event of total loss they write you a check.

Stated Value = you tell the insurance company what its worth and they write a policy based on your statement. If you have a total loss you need to prove to the insurance company the car had the value you stated, otherwise they pay a lesser amount based on "car was not actually worth the amount the owner stated". They will use 'Blue Book' or some such thing to lower your claim.

A large number of these cars/trucks are modified these days, don't think that is an issue with most insurers.
