turn the key, insert a paper clip in the small hole, press it in, and just pull the tumbler assembly out. nick

Note that the pressing in will only work at a specific point in the rotation...you should be able to feel the spring there when you reach the right place.

Re: 1940 trunk handle lock cylinder removal
got it done. i talked to lanny and he told me what to look for in doing it.
i used a 3/32 drill bit and drilled a hold in the upper part where it juts up and where the only pin that holds the cylinder into the lockset was. you can see in the pictures. then i used a small angled pick to push the pin out and then put a sheet metal screw in the cylinder and popped it out. the new cylinder was tight so i gently and carefully filed out the inside of the lockset to get the new cylinder to go in smoothly. with the key in and turned 45 degrees clockwise, the pin will push down with your finger and stay down. then i had to use a small screwdriver to hold the latch at the end of the hole of the lockset up while turning the door handle enough to keep the little latch up that the end of the new cylinder goes in.. then gently push the new cylinder in and walla, it was done. the metal on the new bob drake cylinders is very very soft so easy to drill out thanks for the advice tom

Re: 1940 trunk handle lock cylinder removal
one last comment. the reproduction cylinders only have one pin to hold it in and it is in the front. the original equipment cylinders have a pin at the front and rear. so they would be considerably harder to drill out.
