Default Oil check authorized?

In the 33/34 Book, the Schwartz Oil Check is an unauthorized accessory. I found one at Hershey that has the Ford oval on the face. Anyone have an explanation for it?

Can you show some pictures of the side? Rudolf Faltermeier reproduced these at one time and his had clear sides on them whereas the Schwartze units were a solid body. The Faltermeier repros are rare as well. I've had both but never recall one with the "Ford" logo.

The story with it was that it was rebuilt by Rudy. The box around it is beige. By clear sides do you mean transparent? I can't get pics till I'm home on the weekend but I would say it's pretty much solid all the way around.

I needed some work on my '32 dual-temp a couple of years ago and found Rudy had sold his business to rsgaugeworks.com, (602) 978-1746. I haven't had any personal experience with them but it might be a good place to start.

I think it says "Furd". If you look closely, it looks like the top of the "o" isn't quite as rounded and closed as it should be.

That was one way the old replacement parts companies got around licensing the "Ford" logo. Did it on hubcaps and the like.

If it's solid beige sides all the way around, I'd say that's original, at least the box. Rudy's sides were transparent plastic and you could see the insides. Rudy did repop the face plates, so maybe that's the case although I still haven't seen the Ford logo on any of the half dozen or so that I've had. The original faces always said "Schwarze Electric". I'll attach some pics of an original.

The script and oval appear to be the recent version (not as tall and less flair to the script), not the version used in the 'thirties.
