Default 1938 Ford PU Recond Engine Run In

Hi folks,
Looking at a 38 Ford PU which is fitted with an 8RT engine which has had a rebuild. Present owner advises caution until run in period is completed?
I understood with todays gear main thing not to overload engine and to vary speed when driving on open rode.
Any thoughts suggestion welcome.

I'd go for a drive. I'd drive through the Lewis Pass to the West Coast, have a cup of tea with Joe in Stillwater (if he's not away fishing). Stay in Greymouth for the night, if you have any issues with the car Joe knows good people who work on his cars and trucks, then come back through Arthurs Pass. When you get home that engine will be well 'run in' with a bit of easy work on the flat, a bit of hill work though the Lewis and a bit of mountain work through Arthurs, followed by some more flat work home, and you will have had a good drive.

Fe's got the right info. Only thing I could add is that whilst at Joes, to let Joe take it for a drive- then it will be run in!!!

NOS 39 ford engine 32 years and 125,000 miles ago. Castrol 20/50 at start up drove it normally from the start with a lot of 1,200 mile trips at 65 to 75 MPH. Today the engine is clean, quiet and doesn't burn a drop of oil. G.M.

What Phil said, drive the sh** out of it after you check the oil pressure. Now if you really want to distroy it, run it on an engine stand for a fwe hours.

Thanks for kind info.
Already did the trip to Stillwater in 34 Coupe after brakes were done. That was also to pick up the wheel cover. Went Arthurs Pass & Lewis Pass Home. Stayed with Joe and visited his brother who had done a fantastic job with the wheel cover. Black to match guards.

This truck then to run at good load maybe at pick up from Auckland down to Ferry Terminal for trip across the straight. Vary load ie 50mph and 60 mph
And this will do the trick?

Have just returned from another road trip from home to West Coast, Blackball, stayed the night, then through to Motueka, stayed the night, and then Motueka back to home just north of Ch-Ch. The 39 Standard coupe never missed a beat and pulled very well on all hills. Real satisfying when all goes well.685 mls round trip.

You are good to go at least 100,000 miles with good oil. G.M.
