Default shock absorbers

I recently bought a 1930 coupe and I noticed it doesn't have any shocks on it. What is everybody using? original style, aftermarket new style or none at all? Thanks, Keith T.

Welcome to the Barn! Let's see some pics of your new baby. As for shocks, the best are originals, then Bill Stipe and then tube shocks. Originals and Bill's will spensive but WELL worth it. The Tube shocks work fine they just look weird on an A.

On my 30 roadster I have originals on the front and tube type on the rear and it rides very well, the rear tube types are half of a kit that came from Snyders. I tried the tube types on the front but they stiffened up the ride too much.

I vote for rebuilt originals or Bill Stipes [ if you can find a set].

I just couldn't put tubes on, for me it just ain't right.

But, whatever you, don't get any of those 'oilless' pieces of junk. What a waste of $700 they were.

Thanks for all the replies this forum has been a great help for a first time model A owner! I will try to find a set of original shocks and rebuild them. I will post a picture of my car when my 10 year old granddaughter can show me how, Thanks, Keith T.

I understand about the pictures. My grandkids get frustrated with me because they think it's so simple

We are working on more new shocks just don't know when we will finish them. I think we already have more orders then what's in process so my son Tony said he will order more materials. I have been in Kentucky the last month and don't know exactly were the boys are on everything.

Bill, it seems there was a rumor a few months ago that you were retiring and your cams would no longer be available. Is that true? Sounds from this like you are still in business.

If you're interested, look in my profile under"My A" and you will find (You have to look) of the shock installation I made in my 30Town Sedan. I used Monroe 59017 in both the coupe and the T.S.. These are a double eye mounting system that uses 5/8 bolts. These are rear shocks only. I am thinking making up adjustable friction shocks for the fronts as per the ones another F.Bner, Purdy Swoft has on his cars. OOOPZ, Welcome to the "Barn"! It's a great place if you own a Mod A. I just checked and the shock pics are ion the 2nd and 3rd pages in the photo album. The pics are horribly out of order and I don't know how to move them around You'll have to look around in there.
