I'd say that's a pretty good start.

I would think they would have tried to start it and get it running. I am always suspect of the old run when parked line.

Bought my 31' SW from the son of a man that had passed, the old man started working on the car back in 1958, but never finished, the car sat for 57 years before I got it, the engine did not look like much.
Son said that he remembers it running once back in the early '60's when he was a very young child.
What I found when I tore into the motor was the the Dad had done a complete motor rebuild/clutch/and tranny, plus all new brakes on all four wheels, and when I say new brakes I mean everything was new.
Yes the car sat for 57 years inside a covered and closed garage in Texas, did not look like much, but boy did I luck out.
Son did not know what he had there, picked up the car for a dream.
35 days later I was driving it.
So lifes is a gamble, like a box of chocolate.
Roll the dice...play the game.

You got lucky and it's looking good. That's the first time I've ever seen a white intake, but back in high school I painted my complete 235 engine white and even waxed it.

I am spending his money as I would my own. The engine could be totally seized with a cracked block. It is a definite consideration !

Thought it would look good with a white intake, so I did it, and I like it, don't care about judging or points, only driving and enjoying.
The old man had taken the body off and painted the frame and primed the entire underside of the body (zero rust) looks like you could eat off it, I have not shimmed the body yet, but that should get the doors back in alignment. At least I hope.
Been damn cold/wet out here, garage is like a freeze box, slowing me down some...come on spring.

So, is a vehicle considered "unmolested" if the fenders and splash apron have been replaced or restored? I'm not being critical just asking. It does look good. Many of us have started with a lot worse

Speaking of the primed underbody, would it be prudent/best to undercoat it or paint it?
I'm leaning towards the undercoating while masking the frame and everything else off since it has nice looking paint down there.
Opinions?

car looks solid, but would say it is at about what it is worth
if the car is nearby, that is a plus, if not, I wouldnt spend shipping costs on top of all the
unknowns. Since it is not running, there have been a few on ebay in similar condition in the 8k range in the last 3 months. Look them up for value comparison as to what did and did not sell.
I missed a totally original car on CL about 4 months ago, a vicki and it sold for 7k.
I would have paid more, but it was already sold. I was there to buy a few parts.
Location was in NY.
Good luck with whatever you decide. You are choosing a beautiful model.

That 190A is an early Steel Back which is perhaps the rarest of surviving 190As. The rear valance panel which is unique to the 190A is there. It has the original seats which were upholstered in Bedford Cord. The body appears to be solid, so I am guessing the body wood is good as well. The door trim parts are included. Very important in dating this car is the Murray body tag which is still on the firewall. This 190A does not have the telltale bucket over the rear fenders indicating it was never hit in the back. The VIN is not original. In my opinion, $10,000 is a reasonable price for this car.

In summary, this 190A is worth owning. It could be a driving restoration. It would be horrible if this fine car becomes a street rod!

The one big WRONG thing I see is the gas tank. The badly sagging doors make me think the car has wood problems also. Vickys have a lot of wood. And there is the wheels, not 19's. I think its probably a good candidate to restore but its not going to be a cheap one, or a drive and fix up one either

What am I missing on the gas tank? I'm usually pretty good at picking out the off parts, but I can't see what is wrong with that one. That is really my favorite A.Steelback Victoria.I don't care for the puffy top cars at all.I've worked on the wood in the Victorias. They're not too bad.Nowhere near as scarey as a Fordor.I worked on a low-miler with rock solid wood, but the doors sagged. The wood had dried and shrunk a little, and those long doors made a little sag look big.I did some shimming and tightening and it came back.

Slant windows mount the column to the dash not the gas tank. Shrunk wood would mean replacement also. Big job and BIG$$$$ on a Vicky. Maybe shimming could bring it back maybe not. It appears to be missing the door garnish moldings too. A plus though is it has the rear apron under the spare at the bottom of the body.
