1969 Falcon Sports Coupe worth having?
I came across a car i am interested in and have no clue if its worth much. I have never looked into falcons much. Its a 1969 falcon sports coupe that came factory with the 289. Its original, said to have essentially no rust, carpet is out all floor pans look good and seems to be a good straight body. Looks like the factory paint is still on it.
I am just wondering is this a good car to rebuild? or is it not worth much? Or will it cost a mint to buy parts, or are parts hard to find? The car is complete minus the 289 (doesnt have), factory trans, radiator, rearend, etc.. is all there, just no motor. Has original hood and an extra one with it. Drums are all rebuilt front and rear with new hardware. Comes with factory master cyl but also comes with additional power brake master and booster as they were going to put disc brakes in front but never did. All the glass is good and there, no cracks. All windows roll up and down. Seems like a real solid car and good builder. Is it rare? Or only worth it if you really like it? They want $800 OBO for it. They were dammed nice little cars, especially with the 289 V/8, well worth saving. The little Sport Coupe was considered the poor mans Mustang.

Thats kind of what I was reading about, that it wasnt the car of choice anymore due to the mustang. Sounds like it could be a good one to get though, in 1969 there was less than 6000 sport coupes made from what I find on falcon sites.
I found one beautifully restored, which really makes me think I need it |

And '69 - correct me if I'm mistaken but I think it should'a been a 302, not a 289, right? My brother had a '67 Comet, 289. I had a '69 Galaxy and a '69 E100 van - both were 302s. If memory serves, Henry phased out the 289s in '67 or early '68. Ron |

Ford started phazing out the 289 in 1968, and the 302 became prevalent.
There were no 289's being offered in 1969 on the assembly line that i've heard of. |

Yep, I was just testing yall to see if you would catch it, of course it was a 302 . Seriously though, yall were right and the seller had it wrong. He didnt know either because he bought the car without the engine and said he thought it had a 289 originally.
I got the vin # and decoded it and this is what I got 1969 Futura 2-Door Sports Coupe St. Thomas, Ont. Canada 8 Cyl. 302 CID Horsepower: 220 Carbs: 1-2BBL Compression: 9.5:1 |

I'd be all over that like brown on toast. I noticed that it was built in a good place.

Looking at the pics of the white one you'd swear it looks like a 66 Galaxie from the ass end! Never really liked these cars but they look retro when done right. Ken

Re: 1969 Falcon Sports Coupe worth having?
Always loved the Falcon's...................of course I own a Maverick!
If the car doesn't rust then I would say do it! Parts aren't too hard to come by although body parts are getting harder to find. Since a lot of the chassis parts interchange with Mustang it makes it a lot easier to find. If you end up getting it, order one of these catalogs. http://www.autokrafters.com/v4/go.gn...969&subModelId= The little Falcon would be great with a 351W or even 460. We have a 69 that was turned into a Gasser and it looks really wild. Good Luck! IMHO |

Re: 1969 Falcon Sports Coupe worth having?
Ok guys, maybe this wont work out . I am getting a real uneazy feeling about it. Here is why.
It was on craigs. I called and talked with the guy for about 20 minutes, seemed to know a lot about it and what parts it had etc.. He said the car was in storage and we could meet there to look it over. I called him last night and asked for the vin and data plate info, he said sure, I am here and will go get it right now, and he did while I was on the phone. It all checked out and was legit vin. I said do you have a camera phone, he said yes. I said snap me some more pics of this and that while your looking at it, he said well its getting dark and they wont turn out. (it was hour before dark). Seemed strange. Today we were planning to meet. I come in, check the craigs ad, now it says "ad deleted by author". I texted him, we still good, you still have the car? Yep, we are good, still have it. I said the ad was deleted so I wanted to be sure. He said no, the ad is still there. I said, I just looked, its deleted. He said no, I will not delete the ad until its sold. The ad is gone none the less and was just posted yesterday. I sent a text and said OK, give me the name of the place and address so I can plan to get there. He responds with this. "The place where the car is doesnt have a name, its at a warehouse. Call me when you leave and I will tell you how to get there. Bring cash!" Really not feeling good about this at this point |

Re: 1969 Falcon Sports Coupe worth having?
Nope didnt. I emailed him told him to get me some pics of inside and stuff, wanted to make sure it was legit, no response. Ad was relisted last night. I want to, wife is ON me not to do it, she just dont like the sounds of it. Maybe scam maybe not. There has been several recent posts on our local craigs auto page about car scams too from others that had problems, so I am leary. If it was just at someones house, or a normal place I would go by there. But being at a no name warehouse out in nowhere, no address, I will give you directions when your on the way kind of crap, I just dont know.

Sounds like you should steer clear. Doesn't come close to passing the smell test. If you decide to go take an UZI with you. Dennis/Arkansas

Pass, not worth the scrape, sad that the world has to be this way but it is not worth going into places you don't know. Stay safe.

If additional reinforcements or any "softening up" is needed, my son in-law and his 'band of brothers' might like to assist too BTW he has 2 classic cars - this isn't one of 'em but he crew chiefs it for his/our Uncle - so there is shared interest here

Maybe ask for a carfax or reputable title search results? Assure the method of acqusition is legal and proper if it gets to that. On the flip side, maybe he's just as cautious as you are, doing what he's doing because of a bad previous experience. Good luck! |

Re: 1969 Falcon Sports Coupe worth having?
I actually did that last night, said look, no BS here...I didnt like the situation with all the scams out there...Carrying a lot of cash to a no name no address place in the middle of nowhere, I just didnt like the situation. What else can we do?
His response was "whatever dude, you are probably the scam. You kept asking me where the car was, I tell you were it is then you go steal it. I will sell it to someone else." I was thinking to myself if I wanted to steal the damn car I would come meet you and find out where it is and then go steal it later...DUH! Needless to say I am DONE with all this crap, wait for the next deal to come along. He is obviously having trouble with it because he has re-listed it 4 times and came back to me after days of silence....Maybe I am not the only one being cautious here |

After that reply which IMO is way too suspicious I'd walk away from it.
