Window Channel Installation

Need some help on 56 ford sedan window channel.

I am installing universal stuff, rubber, unbeaded. Plan to just 3m weatherstrip it in.

Here is what I am working with



Can someone tell me:

56 Sedan

Front door

where does the channel attach (or does it) down inside the door. I see a bracket with a screw in it, does the channel screw in there? Below are a couple of pics looking down inside the door





Quarter windows

I dont know how far down the channel should go inside the car on each side of the quarter window. I also dont know if it should be attached somewhere. I can see where the factory clip holes are, but there are no clip holes once your down inside the car. So I dont know if I should just attach the new channel where the the clip holes are and let the rest hang free, or what?

So I guess the question is, when you install new stuff, do you just bend and clip it in and call it a day, or is there some form of attaching it inside the door and qtr area, even when using the stuff that has clips installed?

There is a piece that attaches to the channel and "hooks" onto the bracket just below the latch. That same piece extends down where it has a slot for the bolt in your picture at the very bottom. Do you have your old channel? The piece you need should be attached to it.

I'll try to get you a picture of mine in the morning, I just happen to have my drivers side door panel off. I'll have to take the picture from the bottom, if I can because my window is in.

I can't help you with the rears, I have a wagon.

OK here is a picture looking up from the bottom of the door (Opposite the way your picture is pointed). Hope you can make out how it is mounted, barely enough room for the camera.

THANKS for the info and pics y-blockhead! Man I knew there had to be a piece missing. I dont have those pieces. I let a body shop have the car to paint and I decided to put in new glass then to. So they removed all that and put the new channel in (screwed it up big time) so now I am re doing it myself with new stuff. I cant say those pieces were on the car when I sent it to them, but they sure arent with my car now. Guess I will be hitting ebay! Thanks again, very helpful and I see how it works now.

I used small screws to hold mine to the top of the door frame you need the lower window channel I think they are available aftermarket

There is ONE on ebay right now. It's listed for the left side but I believe they are symmetrical. A little on the expensive side IMO. But then again if you need it...

Thanks Frank. I was looking this morning on there and didnt find any, but was looking under 56. I bet the 55 is the same. Do you know about the quarter windows? Is there a piece or pieces for that as well? I know a couple other guys on ebay that part 55-56 fords and have bought from them so I am going to email them also.

my guess is yes the glass would need to ride in something

Looks like on the door side of the quarter channel it just screws in. There is a lone screw sitting there in mine. On the trunk side of the channel I see there is a piece or bracket of some kind that is attached to the channel. Looks like a specialty bolt and nut of sorts that goes through the hole on the inside (I always wondered what that hole was for) to allow for attaching and adjusting it. I dont have any of that stuff.

The business coupe versions had fixed rear windows. I know where one of those is if you would like pictures, but I'm at work for another week or so. I think he has a couple 2-door sedans there too.

on your question of the rear window you have a break down in your album might give you some answers where are you located

I am emailing some ebayers that sell 50's ford parts to see if they have the qtr window stuff I dont have.

JC. Whitney sells the window channel parts. I don't think that they are printing a pass. car catalog at this time but you can go to there online site. I bought some window fuzzys a while back and they were great.

Thanks. I have the glass runs, but I do need the fuzzy strips that go on each side of the glass. What I am mainly searching for now is the car parts that I dont have, and are not re-produced, that hold the runs in place correctly.

Found a donor for the parts I need, should get them ordered today. There are 2 brackets that go on the quarter windows (2 per side) as well. They are the 2 shortest brackets in the pics. Decided to get the lift channels from him also since mine are banged up and 3 of 4 are not straight. All starting to make sense when you have all the parts

You still need the filler piece for the back of the quarter window run which supports the bailiey channel where It bends and joins up to the back vertical run. It is clipped onto the bailey channel. It is a flattened out v shaped channel and fills the sharp bend in the glass run. Maybe the bloke selling the bits you are buying still has them.
