prep lead seams
How do you prep lead seams on a baby bird. I've herd about some type of acid treatment that stops the paint from bubbling over time.

Re: prep lead seams
Eastwood carries lead supplies,,tools, etc. if you go over to the HAMB, and run a search, you'll get more info and opinions than you ever wanted. When you find the answer, post it back. I need to know for my bird one of these days.

Re: prep lead seams
Clean, clean, clean, 40 grit paper, epoxy primer, urethane primer, and "surface leveling" material.
Bubbling of paint is almost 100% incomplete cleaning.

Re: prep lead seams
I have run into rust behind the lead seams.
The lead looks great on a frontal view but once you remove the lead, then you will find all sorts of rusty horror underneath those seams. As previously mentioned - with todays new polymer technology there is no need to use lead. The new stuff is better! Oldmics |

Re: prep lead seams
If you need to remove flux residue from lead you can wash with 50 50 mix of alcohol and ammonia. Or backing soda and water. I prefer alcohol and ammonia , less chance of rust.
