With a bit of looking around I found myself an M46 trans and laycock overdrive,,,not that it helps but it’s an aluminium main case ,,it’s out of a 740 Volvo,,,

Not quite the same topic but....I bought a volvo o.d. mounted in the torque tube from a guy in Cali. who told me he bought it from Rich Little. I called and sent pictures of the unit to A guy in Rich Little's shop and he said it wasn't one of theirs. He did send me a wiring diagram for it though. Nowthe question. I've seen people on here saying they use the unit on 6v. I wired it up and nothing. When I put a battery charger on 12v. to the solenoid I could hear it click. So would a 12v mower battery under the seat with the o.d. wired to it solve my problem?

My Laycock overdrives all function fine on 6 volts. Are you saying that you hooked a 6V battery charger up and tried it that way?

No, I couldn't get it to work off of my 6v battery in the car. So I put a battery charger on 12v to the solenoid and it clicked in.

Hi Mike,

I think you might have other issues.. My OD also works fine with 6V, which i believe they all should do.. I think you will be over engineering the repair by trying to wire in a 12v battery when you shouldn't have to..

Maybe either check your wiring to the solenoid, or maybe the condition of the solenoid itself?
