Default Engine Temp IR and Moto Meter Reading

Just rebuilt my engine with insert bearings on mains and rods. Nothing else was done. Replaced everything back to where it came from. Engine runs quiet and smooth. Timing is fine. Drives well.

Took an IR reading after a good run. Top front head reads 210F and bottom rear 157F,
Rad top front 191F and bottom 170F.

Prior to this I was only using my Moto Meter as a guide.
It never got much past the bottom "Summer Run" line.
It now registers below this line and rises when engine is shut off which I understand is normal.

I have not run it up a long hill.
I do not have a temp gauge and by these readings I do not believe I need to be concerned. So I will continue to use the Moto Meter as my guide.

I feel many people try to overthink this. Use the overflow tube as your guide. If it is puking water, then there is an issue. Worrying whether it is operating at 170° or at 200° is moot IMHO. It sounds like yours is fine.

I agree with Brent, you are probably OK. My old radiator which was a poor aftermarket one would run around 210 - a new Bergs gets me to 160 to 170. With what you did, there should be no change in your cooling system.

Thanks all.
The overflow tube puked after we filled the rad but that was because it was too full. I siphoned off to just at the top of the plate......no more puking!

Katy......No, I do not have one. It didn't have one when I first got it.
No winter driving here. Some fall touring. So, mostly summer runs.
Not sure I need one?

A rebuilt engine will be tighter, therefore hotter. You are fine!
