Default 1935 Ford Brake Shoes

I picked up another set of 1935 Ford backing plates. The front set has cast brake shoes. Reading some of the interviews on file at Benson I remember comments on H Ford’s desire to cast various parts to save on manufacturing cost, at least in the early days of Model A design and engineering.
These 1935 brake shoes are the first cast Ford shoes I have seen, were they used in other years?

Has anyone discovered the reasoning behind the cast shoes?
Pros & cons of using them?

P.S.
Getting close, I only need one front drum.......

Tim, I have a bunch of both styles as shown in your pictures. I always thought the one's in your left side picture were stock original as used in production, and the cast type on right side were after market, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Some of the cast versions I have have new linings, and I won't hesitate on using them if needed.

In the mid 1960's i bought a low mileage 36,00 mi 36 Ford, it had the cast shoes on all 4 wheels. I would have to believe they were original.
