Default 1954 256 Distributor Vacuum Advance unit

I am having trouble finding the distributor vacuum advance module for a 54 Mercury 256. There is no part number on the old one. It's 3" ..... alternatively, does anyone sell a kit for the 54 Y block ..distributor/ carb / oil pump? Thanks!!

RockAuto has the complete reman distributor, including the vacuum advance. $64.79 + $100 core charge + the trip.

Hopefully they don't use Cardone as their exchange / rebuilder.

I wonder if the vacuum canister is available from them separately...

If you do buy one... Don't return your original distributor (core) until you're perfectly satisfied the new one is an exact replacement and works without any problems..
With as hard to find as the originals are, you might even consider keeping the one you have as a spare, while you'd have more time to find a replacement vacuum canister.

The supplier is Autoline. I've never heard of 'em but that means nothing. Rock Auto doesn't list the canister as a service part.

The vacuum advance canister and distributor look the same as '55 Ford 4 bbl. units, except for the tang drive for the oil pump for the '54 engine. I'm thinking a '55 vacuum advance canister might work if it's easier to find.

As far as a kit for the carb, the '54 Merc kits are slightly different, and not covered by the universal kits for '55 through '57 teapot 4 barrels. Pretty sure Mike's Carburetor Parts has the specific '54 Merc carb kits.
Daytona Caburetor in Florida should have the carb kit too.

'55 Mercs had the 292 instead of the 256. Dunno if that would make a difference.
