1Lowtrk,s Hello
Hello everyone.
My name is Mike Well I lurked for quite a while then registered when I got my A pickup.I have been around cars all my life. When I was a yungun my grandfather had a 1931 Model a roadster (last time I saw it it was at Hawkinson Ford in Oaklawn Ill)I remember riding in the rumble seat to glenview navy air base for an air show.Grandpa also had a 1929 Hudson that I still have.Unfortunately he sold the A to buy a 1922 Hudson (that we still have). So now in my Garage sit a 1931 Model A pickup and a 1929 Hudson.Just like when I was 8 The sounds and smells bring Me right back to 8 years old. There are some pic,s of my pickup in my profile. It,s a 70,s restoration that runs well. The paint is fair but showing years of storage. It does have some kind of what looks like a homemade double overdrive 65 is no sweat. It,s in the process of getting new brakes right now.I will try to get some pics of the overdrive. It look like a another whole trans in the torque tube with a cable next to the steering column and a lever next to the shifter. Re: 1Lowtrk,s Hello
WELCOME!!!
Sounds like you have a Borg Warner OD. These were probably one of the first OD's that were converted for Model A use long before Mitchell became a house hold word. If you have a lever by the shifter it may have been converted from an electrical switch to a mechanical shift. I had two of them in my first A's in the early 80's. One was changed to mechanical the other remained electrical. I was new at overdrive mechanics and forgot to put a part in when it was assembled. A few days later we took off for Lake Geneva for the Big National Meet. An error in shifting broke the dog leg pawl and the remainder of the drive was without the OD. Here I am fixing it. May you not have this kind of adventure. http://staff.washington.edu/bbirt/me.htm Last edited by foxfire42; 06-26-2013 at 02:30 PM. |

See Mike V's post below.
You must be doing most of it right since it's working for you. Barb Last edited by foxfire42; 06-26-2013 at 02:51 PM. Reason: deletion |

Mike
That sounds right. After I straighten out the brakes I will take her out and play around abit and see if I can figure it out.I do know the lever on the trans has a interlock so it can only be shifted when the trans is in 2nd or 3rd. |
