Default Accelerator Linkage Confusion

When I got my accelerator linkage it had a broken spring. I've got a new spring but can't figure out how this thing goes together.

Which way does the linkage arm go?

When I line up the holes to,put the new retaining pin in, the arm is either facing the back of the car or forward and up. It seems like the holes are wrong but that can't be.

Does anyone have a picture for reference....I'm stumped because the linkage rod to the carb is too short anyway I try it.
