When using a shevy distributor oan a 59 engine. the belt will clear the distributor with the stock pumps if you shim the generator out aprox 1/4 " I've done this on several applications and the belt wear was neglable

The guy I bought the generator from was super nice. It was me who asked for as much amperage as I could get. He told me that the later (slightly bigger) ones would work better for that. I thought there were two styles of mounting and as long as I had the type that would mount on the early intakes, I would be good to go. I don't need to name names because the fault is mine.

There was a comment earlier in this thread about not "kludge(ing)" it. Yet it is very difficult to get all the right parts on these early trucks. I am more interested in making it look "period correct" than I am in a concours resto, though I know that is more the reason for this forum. I still feel my truck fits better here than over on the HAMB. I will put a spacer behind it and only the trained eye will notice. Just seems simpler.

I'm thinking what he said, or meant in other words, was don't just "jury rig" something that could easily fail (maybe unsafely). I've seen the consequences of doing things wrong with these fan mounted generators and alternators. So think safety first with whatever you wind up doing.
