Unhappy Kind of new to the forum

I was on this forum in 2015. Now just reunited myself. I know a couple of guys with model a's but they live too far away for me, 50 plus miles. Looking for someone in Welcome or Lexington, NC that would be willing to just talk and work on our cars. I have a 28 roadster and a 64 t bird. Looking to paint my a this summer and don't know if to do it myself or find a shop to do it for a reasonable amount. I just don't want to spend $10,000 plus as some are asking.

The most important part of painting is prep. You can do that yourself for about $100-$200 in materials if you have the space and tools, and depending on the condition of your sheet metal. Once you’re happy with that, have a good paint shop look at it for suggestions, then negotiate a squirt price. You may have to disassemble some to get a good price. Paints, regulations, and reducers are expensive, as are shop rates, but it should be less than $1500.

I did all my own work, sandblast, epoxy primed, bodywork, sand prime and paint.Im a mechanic by trade, not a body and paint man....the reason folks pay 10 or 15k is it shows..the skills it takes to do it high quality work...like any other trade..is years of work in the trade.I didn't want a show car, painted it bobcat skidsteer charcoal gray,5 to 1 hardener to acrylic enamel..DeVilbis 'starting line' gun.It looks good and will never rust,so I'm happy...and yes,you will see every flaw..

I have some painting knowledge and did paint 2 or 3 cars during my 74 years. Only one turned out real good. I just want it to look better than it does. Hope to get to painting it this summer. I just have to remember to not get in a big hurry. Hoping weather will get warm soon, so I can sandblast the hood and my wheel rims as they are in dire need of a paint job.

Hello MickeyD.
You are looking for someone within 50 miles to talk to. Why? You can talk to people all around the world on this forum who are willing to share their skills and expertise. I don't have a great deal of either but enjoy chatting to other Model A enthusiasts and I'll talk to you too.
