Re: What is "heat soak"?
In the 70's many cars had the problem Tom speaks of. Ford solved it by drilling a minuscule hole in the fuel pump to allow pump-pressure to return to the tank after shut- down. This prevented the carb from getting more fuel as it boiled off, into the manifold. On the 300 CID sixes all we had to do was unscrew the filter, drill the hole, put the filter back on. Problem solved!

Re: What is "heat soak"?
For a starter motor it means the armature got bigger because of the heat and is rubbing on the field coils. Some cars that had the starter under the exhaust had this problem. This can also happen when armature bushing get worn.

Re: What is "heat soak"?
I had a heat soak problem on my Chevy with headers. After stopping for 10-15 minutes the car would not start. This was due to the wiring and solenoid. I fixed it with this kit. I used to have a much longer article on what is happening but I can't find it.
