I added "generally" into the bias versus radial because a lot of the older prewar bias ply tires ran higher pressures. After the war, things changed a lot with tires. New compounds and better nylon ply materials made a big difference is the construction of the tires. Bias ply will run a bit warmer than radials so the pressure increases substantially during driving. My old Merc likes about 30 psi with nylon bias ply tires. It's heavy when you load up the family in there. We used to carry a standard size grain cart with it too. It's never had a radial tire on it yet.

In the 60s we ran about the same pressures in the bias ply tires as we did the radials.

Your right - I run about 32 lbs in all my radials. My every day cars are about the same.


I think you will find anything over 35 will ride like a truck
