Delete pop out wiring

If you don't have a pop out sw do you just ground the case/wire?

The Ign Sw provides a ground to the distributor. Depending on the type of switch you use, just ground the case or the second terminal. If you'd like to convert the car to switched ignition through the ignition sw, run the switch to a subminiature DPDT relay, then off one set of relay contacts you have the switched ground for the ignition and off the second set of contacts you can get the switched ignition to run accessories. A 5volt submin DPDT relay off of ebay or amazon is only a few bucks. Easy enough to hide it in heat shrink tubing by the wiring harness, however make sure you make a note of the changes and tape it by the relay or document it somehow so the next person isn't expecting stock wiring.

If you're talking about an aftermarket ignition key switch, then there is no need to ground anything. Just mount the switch, one wire comes from the coil and the other goes to the distributor/ points. Whichever cable is the battery ground [ lets say +] is the same wire polarity[ + ] from the coil to the switch.

If the switch has an accessory terminal, then additional stuff can be attached to it.

A lot of folks use a wire similar to this when they eliminate the Pop Out Switch and armored cable.

Yep.

I like using that primary cable. It makes it easier to wire the system like a more modern vehicle if wanted and makes removing the distributor easier.

A prudent thing to carry with you in your tool bag is an ignition by-pass cable. Photo shows the one Bratton's sell. You can also make one from a discarded pop-out cable. This is used when you encounter an ignition fault out on the road. By removing the pop-out cable from the distributor and replacing it with the bypass cable you eliminate numerous potential faults in the ignition system. The bypass cable clips to the low side of the coil and connects the coil direct to the distributor. This will usually get you home where you can trouble shoot the problem in your garage instead of along side the road.

Once the engine is running you have to un-clip it from the coil to shut the engine off.
