Smile Ethanol gas & 1941 ford v/8

I have a question on my 1941 Ford that i have had for about 10 years. It has been running fine and well, but now it sounds like it not missing but thumping or cutting out It is a flat-head v/8, i have been running it on low grade Ethanol when it started doing this, then went to high grade but made no change on the running part. It seems to have a lot of carbon on plugs and at high idle it puts carbon out tail pipe. Does and body have any ideas on this, would appreciate very much, I have also put Marvel Mystery Oil in gas tank did not seem to help.

If you are running a Holley 94 type carb you will want to check the power valve. The ethanol causes the diaphragm to leak on older ones. The results are like what you describe.

The grade of the gas is not going to make a difference, the compression is way to low for that to be a factor. Ethanol is a more likely culprit. Can you purchase non-ethanol gas in your area? You can in Kansas.

Not sure I understand your response, non-ethanol is not going to repair the damage that the ethanol has caused, it is to prevent the problem in the first place. The only fix now is to repair/replace the damaged parts. Once ethanol has done it's damage nothing you can add to the tank is going to fix it, sorry to be the barer of bad new!

Hello to all that gave me help and information on my 41 Ford V/8 that was not running right. I want to thank you all for the help, you gave me information if i had a 94 Ford carburetor to change the power valve. I had another carburetor so i replace the one on car with this one, and found it runs alot better without the thumping , or missing out trouble. When i do give it a fast feed from the gas pedal it has a slight hesitating then pick up with no trouble. Maybe i have a Accelerator Pump draging a little. For right now it is running much better and i give you all who help a BIG thank you and i do appreciate .

DAYTONA PARTS CO. has all the ethanol proof parts for the flathead Ford.
Google them for your ordering information.
