Default Rear leaf spring U bolt

I'm considering cutting a hole in the floor of the rumble seat to replace a bad U bolt. Any better ideas, short of lifting the body? Thanks

What do you think you have to cut a hole in the floor

I hope you are going to tell me I don't have to cut the floor. Looking at it, it seems to me it is possible to remove it without lifting the body. Thanks

Why are you removing it in the first place? I've pulled several rears and I've never removed the bolts yet.

He likely stripped the threads on the U-bolt. It happened to me but I was working on a '31 S/W Town Sedan which has a removable cover over the rear spring so it was not much work.

I suggest you go the route of lifting the body enough to replace the spring. Remove the nuts from the body bolts, raise the rear of the body...block between the body and frame for safety and make the change. Work safe.
Good Day!
