Pan Gasket Install
1930 A tomorrow I will install the pan. The engine is in the car. Advice: Do I tack the gasket to the pan or the block or both. I am using this Permatex High Tach adhesive. The Les Andrews book says on both sides. That seems pretty sticky.

Yes and yes. And be sure to butter up the area around the cork seal pretty good - and watch as you wind the screws in that the square cork doesn't "squirm" out.

Re: Pan Gasket Install
And careful on the torque specs listed in the Les Andrews book if you're going by those for the pan. Someone in our club mentioned it's got a missprint of 20 ft/lbs when it should be something like 5-9 ft/lbs.

Re: Pan Gasket Install
Thanks, Heneste. This is good to know about the torque. I have the Les Andrews manual right here and he say 20 ft. lbs.

Next time the pan is removed, the gaskets should stay good. |
