At our local grocery chain (Brookshires) gas was $1.92 per gallon last week. With the discount points we got for buying their groceries I was able to fill up the truck (23 gallons) at $1.02 per gallon. Beat that.

According to the inflation calculator...

...$1.65 gas today is about the same as 19 cent gas in 1960.

Yesterday I was in Tyler Texas and bought gas at a Gulf Station for $1.70 a gallon. Today I am in the Seattle Washington area where gas is $3.30 a gallon. Hope to get back to Alaska next week where it’s around $2.90

I do hope you Americans appreciate the price you pay for gas ie gasoline.
In Australia I am paying 1.60c per litre and 3.9 litres equals 1 US gallon. That is $6.24 AUD per gallon which is 4.36 USD per gallon. The exchange rate is $0.70 AUD to $1 USD.

I can remember when I was a kid my dad complained bitterly when the price of standard grade fuel went from 5 pence to 7 pence an imperial gallon. We had only standard grade as there were no high performance engines in those days requiring premium grade.
The motor car in the picture was same as our family car and the pictures of tractors are Farmall A and McCormack W4. All burn petrol.

Our motor car didn't look as flash as this one neither did our Farmall A but our W4 did have some paint.
Pictures from the internet.

The price of Petrol

I can also remember in much later years we had all diesel burning tractors. Dad went to an auction and bought home an old John Deere 2 cylinder petrol burning tractor. Not a very useful tractor. I do remember tying a piece of bailing twine to the governor and pulling it the speed was nearly supersonic. So fast it was infact dangerous especially with the crop wheels in front.

Well I asked Dad why he bought such an old tractor he explained that our family car was the only vehicle that burned petrol and how would he explain where all the petrol went in the event of a visit from the tax and excise man. Good thinking Dad.

My parentshad raised us kids to always be honest. Dad further explained when dealing with the government it’s very okay to lie.
Years later when I was caught lying to the customs man I did tell him I had no conscience about lying to the government. I pointed out to him that they lied to me every day. After a few moments of consideration he did come out with a broad smile.

1 AUD equals 0.7 USD. That equates to 4.36 USD per gallon.
The reason gas prices are low in America is due to several factors:
1. There is actully more oil then we could ever use
2. We've know about the “abiogenic” theory of hydrocarbon generation for years (but don't tell the general public)
and most importantly
3. See pics

$3.49 here in rural Nevada. That's bad enough, but add that to the long distances we need to travel to "get anywhere"......it's a real drag.

Pure Gas - IOS/IPhone is a good app for finding gas.stations (nearby) who sell gasoline that contains no ethanol. I don’t know whether there is also an Android version of this same app.
