Great news Bob - I also found that the pig tail wire was at fault - the cloth and rubber covering on mine had deteriorated to such an extent at a point where the wire appears to have been bent - that it was shorting across the lower body. Thanks again to all the contributors for helping solve Bob's (and my) problem.

This says it all for electrical problems. A lot of hours to find the one little electrical fault. Glad you solved the problem. Now I know why I like metal work.

I've had very good luck with the wireless bottom plate (Bratton's 17300) and the acorn nut on the points. Am I asking for problems down the road?

Every thing works until it doesn't.

I know owners that have had them for years no problem But I know more that have had problem a year or two down the line.

It has to do with miles, not years. After a period of time the acorn nut will make a carbon path on the part it slides on. Each time the spark handle moves it draws a spark. After about 1,000 miles there will be a build up where the acorn sits when the spark handle is up and where you normally put it when driving. This will cause the engine to miss. Eventually you won't be able to start the car.

You are better off staying with Henry's design. If you use the proper multi-strand fine wire that Bratton's sell and it is oriented properly it will serve you well for years as it is a positive electrical connection.

Years ago, it was NOT uncommon to see a car being towed by 2 MULES or HORSES, (Looked like a "STAGECOACH") or being pushed for miles, by another CAR!

Did you read all the posts? It was fixed on #38. And the switch was tested well before that
