Default All cleaned up and nowhere to go.

Hello All,

I am finishing up a 56 Mercury Montclair engine assembly, and it seems I have a couple of parts left over that I can't find a home for. I think that they are markers, probable one for a timing mark. But the truth is I just don't know. If someone could help me with identification, hopefully the installation point will work it's self out.

I have attempted to attach pictures.

Thank You,

The part in photo #1 is a Timing pointer, it mounts to the 2 bottom bolts of the water pump.

(edit)
just a guess but my first thought on the 2nd part is, a broken horn mount bracket.

I'm not sure about the horn mount. This came back to me in a box from the machine shop that did the engine so this was bolted to the engine somewhere i have to assume.

second guess,
broken bracket that attaches the gas pedal firewall Z bar onto the top rear of the block.

First one is the timing pointer, like dmsfrr said. That second one doesn't look like anything that gets bolted to the Y-Block anywhere. Possibly a modified bracket for a carb idle return spring, but would not be mounted with two bolts.
There is really no place on the y-Block that has boltholes that close together except on the back of the block at top behind the intake manifold for the carb linkage idle spring.

The metal of these may be a bit thicker than it seems in Steve's photo but the shape is similar.
Not sure what year these throttle Z bar brackets are but they're probably not '56 Merc.

I checked the timing pointer and it fit right up, while there i took a couple pictures of the rear of the block behind the intake. Looks like a fit. hopefully I will be dropping it in soon to check out how it functions a little better. I'm still a little confused on that part.

Picture no. 2 bracket holds rubber grommet that spark plug wires go through.

That's what I was thinking too.

Since the other end of the second bracket seems to be missing...
I'm still thinking it used to be the one that holds up the 'engine' end of the throttle lever. Just a slightly different style than the one in this photo. (#1)

The other end of the throttle lever pivots in a bracket on the firewall and bends down to the hole in the floor in front of the gas pedal. (photo #2)

Well I installed the thing back there beside the distributor it for sure fit but it covers a bolt hole. and I am not sure if I may have it backwards or something. I attached a picture for a little advice if possible.

Also, you know how one thing seems to lead to another. I have this crooked bracket that I was sure that it was a support for the generator, but now I'm not sure. I attached it as well.

Thanks,

I think they are spark plug wire holders missing the rubber grommets . the last picture looks like the one that goes on the right rear side of the eng. I will have to go out and look at a set of wires I took off a y-block that I parted out. I kept the plug wires and brackets with the grommets all in place to use as a "road map" on how to properly route the wires in the holders and to get the proper length wires. the one that you bolted, on the eng.maybe upside down. I do not have my car here to look at . It is in storage 50 miles away for the next couple of weeks. I will let you know what I find on the old wires I have.

This is the mounting that I have to group the Plug Wires together on my 1956 Mercury 312 Y Block.

I finally found the used wires and stuff I had stashed away, but some of the brackets are missing. I may have used them on the hot rod. I will not get into town until later this week and look at it. I will let you know then what I find . I swear I have seen brackets like the ones you have , and they were for plug wire looms. I could be wrong. it would not be the first time .

OEM Spark Plug Routing and Tie Down-

The bracket appears to be a damaged (stress cracked or modified) part of the fuel linkage bell-crank.

I guess I am wrong, the picture posted by Kultulz shows it all. I swear I have seen plug wire brackets similar to those before, maybe on another brand of vehicle. I worked as a professional mechanic all my life. at 68, I don't remember everything I have seen, so looks like maybe those are parts to some linkage. there is the possibility that those parts do not even go to your vehicle. they may have gotten mixed in with your stuff at the machine shop when parts were taken out of the parts cleaner. I have seen that happen before.

Well, we don't know that yet. I may be wrong also. I have no 56 MERC cataloging or service info. But the bracket appears very similar to the 54//55 MERC AT bell crank.
