Default Putting fuel in gas tank

Does anyone have a setup at home to be able to add gas to the tank from a gas can without pouring from the gas can itself? Hand crank or electric pump. If so what worked well and what didn't? Hard to not drip when pouring from the gas can itself.

This works great ... Lay a blanket on hood put PLASTIC gas can on top.

Pump a few times to start siphoning and viola!!

Drains 5 gallons quickly.

Many years ago a guy I knew got gasoline in his lungs while siphoning ...almost killed him.

Some kind of pneumonia ... was not a lot fun for him.

I sit the can of fuel (usually 20 litres) on an old towel on the front of the tank and the back of the bonnet (hood) and use one of those syphon tubes - have done for decades.
I like to keep things as low tech as possible so any sort of pump, which is totally un necessary is out for me. The ball valve on the end of the tube is however, a minor concession to technology. It eliminates the possibility (probability) of a mouth full of fuel.

Currently using one of these from Amazon.

DEWAY Automatic Fuel Transfer Pump with Auto-Stop, 3X More Powerful D Battery Powered, Extra Long Hose, Portable Liquid Pump Transfers Gasoline, Water & More at 2.3 Gal/Minute

The pickup tube is a bit short to leave the can on the floor, but setting a 5 gal can on a 5 gal bucket gets it done without dripping or scratching anything. Get the one with the longer discharge tube to reach all the way.

An inline primer bulb works well to get a siphon going,

I have a "Turbo Pump" gas filler with an automatic shut-off function that runs on 3 AA batteries. For the first 5 or 6 fillings it worked as designed...great!
Then then while filling on the next use the shut-off did not work(and hasn't worked since), spilling gas. Fortunately I was closely monitoring the fill and was able to shut it off immediately, avoiding a major disaster. Although I had a gas cap apron and an old sheet as insurance some gas got on the paint...yikes! Two "Moral Of The Stories": 1) The unit was made in China; 2) Do not trust an auto-shut off...NEVER LEAVE AN AUTO SHUT-OFF UNIT UNATTENDED !! My system of home filling is now this: 1) If my tank is less than 1/2 full I will use the fill unit with a 5 gallon can perched atop a 31" stool...no possibility of overflow; 2) With my tank more than 1/2 full I use a 2 1/2 gas can to manually fill with standing on a step stool...easy on the back and easy to control flow; 3) With either method I use a gas cap apron (available from vendors) and an old towel or sheet as a back-up. As much as I love my Model A I do not like the gas fill situation. HAPPY FILLING AND HAPPY MOTORING ! Gary
