Default 40 Wipers

I’m using the original vacuum wiper motor and wiper towers on my 40. What wiper arms and blades does everyone recommend. I’m seeing several different styles being offered.

Saw those and other styles that are suppose to be a improved design made by Drake.

To be frank, I doubt if you will get super duper performance from any vacuum controlled wipers. The technology of the time just didn't measure up to the task.
Carry a bottle of RAINX with you.

Rain X is also in my plan, just don’t want to install some kind of offshore garbage wiper blades or arms that won’t seat properly on the shafts that’s going to fly off first time I attempt to use them going down the road. Was hoping to see more feedback from others experiences but apparently there’s no issues with what is on the market. Thanks for the responses 👍

In my 1952 Mercury, I use the original vacuum Wiper. I follow the service instructions;
Motor not running, tune wiper knob fully on, take off the vacuum hose from wiper motor. Take a short hose from wiper motor in a oil can, drag the wiper ALMOST to max, and then return to parking position.
This will suck oil into the Wiper motor and keep the leather seal on the piston moist so it will seal.

I do this once a year and it keeps the motor working nice.

My 40 has been setting in a garage for about 30 years. The wiper motor would just move a smidge. I removed it and lubed it as you described and it’s working fine now. My transmissions are tight so I’m going to remove the towers and clean and lube them. The towers have some pitting so I may attempt to locate some that have better chrome.

You're unlikely to find NOS anymore. However, the Drake repops are very good quality. It's one thing he got "right". He probably doesn't have any in stock but perhaps one of the other vendors may have a set on their shelf. Just make sure you get the Drake brand.

Thanks Kube, that is what I’m looking for is recommendations. Drake is out of stock at this time for the Coupe-Sedan style. I’m in no hurry I’ll find them.
