Default South Africa muffler.

Guess its time to order an Aries. I was looking over the muffler on my '31 to see if it was a good original,Midas or what and saw South Africa. About 45 years ago I bought a complete bolt on exhaust for a '46 Ford from Dennis Carpenter and it was from South Africa and did not just bolt on.This on my Model a looks like it needed a sledge hammer to collapse the tubing to fit. Probably J.C Whitney or Sears or worse Ricks

Haha I remember Ricks. Terrible supplier. I can still hear my Dad complaining about them. I think he got the one that's on my car from Snyders.

I don't know if this is true or not but I always was under the impression that Rick Freeman was related somehow to Warshawsky who owned JC Whitney. Mayby his son-in law. I only had to deal with him once and it took the attorney general from Kansas to get my money back. What he would do back in the mid eighties when interest rates were high was to take money in and keep it whether he had the part or not, draw interest on it and then if you were lucky you would get your refund back ,mayby 60 days or more. I actually called to make sure that the parts he claimed to have were in stock, gal on phone assured me they were and I paid up.Pair of '53-'56 F-100 bed sides NOS Genuine. They never had them.

I had heard similiar about Ricks. I found an old catalog in my Dad's stash & I keep around just to look at and make fun of the infamous "Rick Packs".

I rather liked Rick's "Model A Shop Manual." This along with Victor Page's "Model A Ford" was all we had to work with back in the 1970s.

I see Rick's book is on Ebay in a couple of places. Mine I "de-bound" (The glue in paperback book binding was already starting to part) and punched holes and put in a loose-leaf binder which I still have.

Now I see how "short" some of the information really was back in those days.

I also thought that the Ricks shop manual was good .
The only problem that I ever had with Ricks was that They didn't have a lot of what was advertised in their catalog . I got tired of most of my orders getting back ordered . A friend gave me a Snyders catalog and I never looked back .
