Default 4" round side mirror upgrade.

I always had a problem with seeing cars driving in the lanes next to me. I think the trucks are harder to see out of due to the cab corners but this may help cars too. I purchased a couple of stick-on wide angle mirrors this winter and have now driven with them. What a difference they make! I can now see the left and right lanes as well as the shoulder of the road. Parallel parking should be easier now too as well as backing up. These mirrors came off the big auction site direct from China for only a couple of bucks each, delivered. They are actually a little larger than the package states so they fit my side mirrors perfectly.

38 Bill;

You're right about the cab corners blocking your side view. The term "blind spot" probably first came from drivers of old trucks.

My truck has truck style mirrors so I bought two of the small, stick on, rectangular, spot mirrors and put them on the truck mirrors. Now I can see what is beside me.

I use mirrors from a company called Hagan Street Rods. The mirrors are called "Fatties" and I have them on all my cars. The visibility is incredible. Driving down the Jersey Turnpike in the right lane I can see all the lanes to my left with zero distortion. They come in Dozens of shapes and sizes with adaptors to fit all styles and stick on versions also. 888-464-2426, www.haganauto.com

Yes the Hagen mirrors are great but they go for about $80 each.

They have the lens that you can glue on your mirror or use them to replace the glass in your mirror frame. The lens are "only" $25, but when I put it in my cart and checked postage it was another $20.17. Cheap ol' me has to think about that. I tend to push back if I think someone is working me.

38, yes, I know they are a little pricy, but when you live on Long Island you need all the defensive help you can get.

Having grown up in Levittown, I definitely understand that-went back for my high school 50th a few years ago, brutal traffic!

On a related note, is it possible to get new mirror glass for an old fender mirror that has lost it's glass? Or is it just cheaper to shop around on ebay for a good used one? My 53 Merc came with a fender mount mirror (in the trunk) and no glass.

Ralph, if the mirror was originally anchored with a "rolled edge", I don't think it will be that easy. I would fill the hollow area with something and use a mirror with an adhesive back.

I was thinking a stick on type mirror might work here. The trick would be to find one close to the right shape. This one is a semi rounded rectangle.

I needed an inside mirror and went to my local auto glass shop and they cut and ground the edges to the correct shape.

You could also check with Ray Helgers in RI, 401 635 4849, open Wed. - Sat. He may have NOS or good used ones.

38Bill Thanks for the tip - I ordered the same mirrors from China, $6 shipped to my door. Huge improvement in visibility! especially on passenger side. Thanks a lot!

Are those glass mirrors? They don't look to have the extreme fish eye that the typical stick-on mirrors used to have. Do you have a link to the auction you used?
